SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the foundation for which things like Google and other search engines work off. Without SEO browsers wouldn’t have anything to do, they’d just display anything and everything. SEO allows Google to organise and index every website, advert, video and image on the internet so that when you search for something you get the most relevant results.
Important information given to the internet includes things like descriptions, titles, dates and key words, sounds relatively simple right? Well, to us maybe, but SEO goes a lot deeper thanks to advances in technology. People used to think that if they just include the right keywords over and over again on their site, they’d appear at the top, and to be honest that may have worked in the past. But nowadays, things like Google are a lot smarter and know when people are trying to cheat the system.
Google now has AI that reads over the content of a site and can tell a “natural” site from an “artificial” site. By artificial I mean that they use cheap tricks to try cheat Google to appear higher on Google results, and natural being a genuine website, that has content that updates and stays fresh giving real interaction with the audience and users.
So, why is SEO important? Well without SEO your website will never be found, it will drift in Google limbo without anything to make it stand out or even searchable. All businesses need SEO in order to grow, get recognition and become seen by internet users.
